All entries can be submitted for consideration without any financial risk – ultimately, any successful Award winners will be charged a fee for the Communication Package. Manufacturers, developers and distributors may submit products for the Design & Innovation Award provided these haven’t been on the market for more than two years at the time of the winners’ announcement (January 22, 2025). Each brand may submit several products for consideration.

You can also submit concepts and technologies designed to be used in third-party products. As each category covers a broad spectrum it is possible that several products per category will be awarded.
The Award team consists of experienced test riders, engineers and international journalists. The team analyses and assesses each of the submitted products in a number of practical tests. The following criteria will be considered in the evaluation:
Product registration is free of charge. All award winners receive a mandatory Communication Package comprising effective marketing communication. The Package contains high quality marketing material for effective communication with end customers and business partners. The Communication Package includes usage rights for the Award logo, a high quality Award winner photo of your product, as well as a selection of general Award images for storytelling purposes. Individual special prints, hang-tags or displays for your product are available upon request.

The official announcement of the Award winners will take place before the start of the new season. This will allow all winners to efficiently implement the Award into their communication campaigns.

Hit me gently!The following tips are designed to simplify the process of submitting a product. Please note that each individual submission requires a separate application form. Each product for consideration stands on its own and requires its own presentation material.
Take your time
A clear, meaningful presentation helps the jury assessing your product in the right way. It’s definitely worth investing some time in this instead of just copying a catalogue text.
Try to be clear and precise
Present your product in a concise manner and describe its unique selling points. Avoid tricky marketing jargon and focus on the core questions: What makes your product special? Why does your submission deserve an Award? Please refer to the evaluation criteria.
Be thorough
Technical data about products as well as information about pricing and availability are not only relevant to end customers but an essential criterion for the evaluation of your submission – make sure your data is correct and complete.
Make a video (optional)
We recommend completing your application with a simple video. This is a great way to present your product, explain its unique selling points and demonstrate how the product works. What’s really important about the video is the information it gives us and not how well it’s been produced – even a smartphone camera or webcam will do!

When will the Award winners be informed of the results?
After the two weeks spent testing in San Vigilio the Award team will gather in mid-October to carefully evaluate all of the results. Shortly afterwards, the most outstanding products of the coming season will be selected. Winners will be informed on December 2024 but an embargo period must be observed until the official announcement of the results on January 22, 2025. On this day the results will go live and the prize winners will be able to launch their official communication campaigns.
Does my product have to already be on the market?
The short answer is no. In the past we’ve tested prototypes or products that hadn’t yet been presented. In both cases, we naturally respected any embargos. Winners, of course, have the option to announce their Award at a later date, rather than joining the official announcement day in January 2025 – however, this means that the product in question unfortunately won’t appear in the DI.A special edition publication. Important: We always need a fully working product for consideration!
How many winners are there?
The Design & Innovation Award assesses each submitted product individually, based on the intended use and the product vision. Since there are different niches and user profiles within each product category there may be several winners per category.
What criteria are used?
Only after testing a product under real-world conditions can it truly be recommended as fit for purpose and provide potential customers and the industry with a real insight. At the Design & Innovation Award there’s no room for assumptions, unfounded product assessments or inflationary marketing add-ons. This only leads to confusion and disappointment for customers and the industry.
Through extensive practical testing the Design & Innovation Award assesses a product’s true performance and potential. On top of this, the Award team assess the overall concept of each product against 10 additional criteria. These include the degree of innovation, design, workmanship, sustainability, quality, vision, efficiency, effectiveness, ethics, ergonomics and comfort.
But what’s the point if people are actually paying for their award?
We are convinced that the trust of the end customers is the greatest asset of any award. That’s why we dedicate so much time into extensive transparent testing and always evaluate the submitted products honestly and independently. It is our greatest interest to strengthen the Design & Innovation Award brand. While there is a cost involved in winning, the benefits are multifold. You can read about the advantages of the Award in the “Communication Package” section, through testimonials from previously awarded brands and the following “Best Practices” chapter. When used correctly, the Award is truly priceless.

Reach out to business partners, distributors and dealers and inform them of your achievement – an Award creates trust and works as a strong quality attribute for brand new products, which may thus far have little or no test results to back them up.
